Anzo joins forces with Uzalo to create their new official (end credits) theme song titled ‘Ishumi’. After ending off his 2021 with a Bang! Anzo announced with the start of the popular telenovela ‘The Wife’ that his song would be the soundtrack for the series. This was met with a lot of love and support from his fans, who have become accustomed to hearing the ‘Umngani Wakho’ hit maker’s voice on some of their favourite South African drama series and telenovelas.
Anzo’s music has been listed in TV programmes such as, Ehostela, Ifalakhe, Durban Gen and Diep City. Keeping to his winning streak, the talented singer, rapper and songwriter has announced that SABC 1 viewers can look forward to hearing his voice every weekday from 20h30 on the riveting drama series Uzalo. The song which is titled ‘Ishumi’ is the new official end track for Uzalo.
Anzo is super excited to have collaborated on this production and always views being able to lend his musical talents to the film and television space as an opportunity to give the visuals a sonic universe. The Uzalo creative team shares his sentiments and Anzo’s Durban roots have made this collaboration even more fitting.
Born and bred in KZN, Anzo is a talented rap artist with an immense passion for writing and performing. Anzo’s first interaction with the South African hip hop scene was back in 2007, when he moved to the Vaal in the south east of Johannesburg. There, he started exploring rap and taking part in high school cyphers and ultimately performing at various hip hop shows in and around the Vaal.
In 2015, Anzo won the Back To The City 10k Challenge, which is an annual hip hop competition for artists and producers in South Africa. He dropped his debut LP that same year titled Indaba Yam, which he describes as inganekwane or book of tales from ekasi.
In 2016, he returned to Back To The City but this time to perform on the main stage. In 2019, Anzo’s songs iDelakufa and Ifalakhe were featured as soundtracks in Mzansi Magic’s eHostela and ifalakhe respectively. In 2021, Anzo was commissioned to write and perform the title track for the critically acclaimed (Stained Glass production) The Wife.
In August 2020, Anzo and fellow stable mates collaborated to create the first body of work under 1020 Cartel. The outcome was two-time SAMA nominated album iSambulo. On the album, Anzo’s enchanting raps brings depth and storytelling on the tracks uMfowethu, Amahora,
Abanjani and Umntanakho.
In August 2021, Anzo dropped his debut solo EP ‘3310’. The EP featured singles with Sjava and Aubrey Qwana . ‘Umngani Wakho ’ went on to the Metro fm Top 40 and Ukhozi fm charts. The track titled Umthandazo featuring Siphiwe Moya was nominated for best produced at the South African Hip Hop Awards.

Uzalo is a South African soap opera produced by Stained Glass Productions, which is co-owned by Kobedi “Pepsi” Pokane and Gugu Zuma-Ncube. It began airing in 2015, quickly becoming a hit due to its compelling narrative, writing, direction and the performances of the relatively-unknown cast. It initially told the story of two young men who were switched at birth, one being raised in a family with core Christian values and the other at a crime syndicate. At some point during 2018 – 2019, Uzalo was the most watched television show in South Africa.
