INDIE FOUNDATION kicks off its fifth Indie Masterclass to Empower Music Artists

INDIE FOUNDATION will be hosting its fifth consecutive Masterclass session titled “The Business of Artist Management”, the Masterclass will be held on 31 August 2019 at the Joburg Theatre, Cas Coovadia Studio.

This Masterclass seeks to explore the important role of Artist Management in building a sustainable and flourishing career in the music industry. There is a concerning growing number of established and emerging performing musicians who are victims of contractual exploitation by greedy Managers and Record Labels. This usually occurs due to the lack of understanding of Management contracts signed by Artists. We seek to empower Independent Artists with knowledge that will assist them in understanding key matters relating to Management contracts.

Since its inception in March 2019, Indie Masterclass has brought together industry experts to share their experience and knowledge about the music industry and how things work as well as providing opportunities for networking.

“We have managed to invite both up-stream and down- stream collective management organisations such as SAMRO, CAPASSO , Sampra and AIRCO to share information about music rights and royalties, further than that, we have successfully hosted industry professionals or experts in the field of sound engineering, music industry law and music publishing to impart their experiences and expertise with the attendees. The aim of the upcoming Masterclass in August is to share insights on “The Business of Artist Management” focusing on the role and responsibilities artist managers and self-managed artists carry out to support and enhance the ongoing career progress of an artist, band and music group.”  said Rudzani Ndadza, Chairperson of Indie Foundation.

In this edition Indie Masterclass will be hosting a ground breaking musician, hit maker of a single titled Jola Nawe.  Terrence Mckay is a singer, song writer and performer who has worked with artists like Lulo cafe and Kwesta. Terrence has also demonstrated splendid performances at SAMA after parties, Vodacom Durban July, shared a stage with Zakes Bantwini and is also part of Unathi’s Brave, True and Strong promotional Tour.

“The attendees should expect exciting and informative insights as Terrence shares his 9 years of selfmanaged artist experience journey and his decision to deligate the day to day administrative side of his career to an in-house management team.” said Rudzani Ndadza, Chairperson of Indie Foundation.

The Masterclass will take place on 31th August 2019 at the Joburg Theatre, Cas Coovadia Studio.

The event will start at 13:00 to 15:00
