SA Mourn the death of DJ Citi Lyts, after drive-by shooting

Tributes have poured in for musician Sandile ‘DJ Citi Lyts’ Mkhize, who was shot dead in the early hours on Monday. DJ Citi Lyts was the younger brother of the late Hip-Hop artist Pro Kid (real name Linda Mkhize). It’s understood Mkhize was shot and killed in Soweto in the early hours of in the early hours of February 14 2022.

News broke on Twitter from the hip-hop fraternity and reports suggested that the DJ was killed after he was shot eight times during a hijacking in Johannesburg. However, it was later stated that the musician was shot dead in a drive-by shooting.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed a case of murder has been opened. “Gauteng police launched a manhunt for suspects after a musician was shot dead in Dube, Soweto, in the early hours of February 14 2022.”

“Police were called to a murder scene in Dube at about 2am and on arrival found a 32-year-old man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds in the upper body. He was certified dead by paramedics. “It is reported the deceased was on the street with his friends when they were shot at by suspects driving in a silver VW Polo.”

Masondo said the motive is unknown at this stage. “Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help the investigation to call the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.” Many artists sent their condolences to DJ Citi Lyts’ family, including the likes of Slikour, Riky Rick, Emtee & Ambitiouz Entertainment.
