It’s Perfect Timing for the Mbongeni Ngema FREEDOM Remix

EmTee, Reason, Gigi Lamayne, Saudi, Blaklez, Tamasha and MJ Machaba all feature on the Mbongeni Ngema FREEDOM Remix to commemorate June 16. While South Africa was celebrating Youth Day and commemorating the fallen soldiers that gave up their lives on 16 June for the freedom we have today, veteran playwright and songwriter Mbongeni Ngema announced that he will be releasing a new remix of the much-loved song from the Sarafina! soundtrack, Freedom is Coming Tomorrow.

Mbongeni Ngema is best known as the Writer of the internationally acclaimed and award-winning musical Sarafina!. Sarafina was nominated for five Tony Awards, and later nominated for the prestigious Grammy Awards. Dr Ngema has written the musical soundtrack for Sarafina – the movie and produced the movie’s soundtrack alongside Quincy Jones. He has composed several music albums, including the famous and locally loved album Stimela SaseZola.

The “Freedom” remix is a fusion of old school meets new school  sound, the legendary Mbongeni Ngema has featured and collaborated with some of the most talented young South African musicians such as eMtee,Reason, Gigi Lamayne, Blacklez, Saudi,Tamasha and MJ Machaba. The song is definitely one for the books, the lyrics talk about freedom and current pandemic the country is facing (Covid19), the lyrics are inspiring and the overall message to the fans and fellow South Africans is to keep on pushing and never give up.

With South Africa celebrating Youth Month and getting ready to commemorate fallen soldiers on the 16th of June (Youth Day) It is only fitting that Mbongeni Ngema is releasing a remix to his famous song “Freedom” which was one of the most loved songs in the musical “Sarafina” which he produced that depicted students involved in the Soweto Riots, in opposition to apartheid. The musical is still nostalgic for many South Africans to this day.

Freedom is very significant to South Africans, the is a happy song and it represents how far we come as a country and where we are headed.
