Gospel Artist Priscilla Mahamba is back with a new project titled ‘Joyful’. The EP follows debut album titled ‘Glorified’, that she dropped back in 2108. ‘Joyful’ is a 5 track EP that serves to bring back joy and worship during what has been a very challenging year for the entire globe.
The EP is led by the single ‘Joyful noise’ which sets the tone for the project. It’s a smooth up-tempo song with some nice heavy drums that lead the rest of the band to a joyful sound in praise and worship. Priscilla Mahamba herself does the band justice with her mellow and angelic delivery on vocals.
Priscilla Mahamba started her ministry (of worship) at church at an early age under the leadership of Pastor J.M Mahamba, who’s also her father. She admits that growing up as a Pastor’s kid raises its own expectations and comes with a certain amount of scrutiny from the community as well as the church itself. However, she doesn’t let that phase her in any way as she belives she was called for this and she gives her all in representing Christ as best as she can.
She studied music at the East Rand School of the Arts (ERSA) where her career began as a lead vocalist at school. As her career progressed, she worked with popular South African Gospel Artists. She went on to share the stage with the likes of Kirk Franklin and many more local gospel Artists at the 2009 Macufe Festival.
We caught up with Priscilla Mahamba on a Kas’lam TV IG live interview where we got to chat more about her journey. The Tsakane (Brakpan) born and raised Artist covered topics like challenges of breaking through the industry as an independent artist as well as the effects of the COVID-19 Lockdown during the interview. She also mentioned how being a gospel Artist comes with its own stigmas and how she deals with everything revolving that.
